A heat pump water heater is an energy-efficient appliance designed for industrial settings to efficiently heat water on a large scale. It is based on residential heat pump water heater principles and is specifically designed to handle the increased demands of industrial processes and facilities. These systems are more robust and designed to handle higher hot water demands than residential units, making them suitable for commercial and industrial settings.
Heat pumps comes in different types depending on the source of energy they use for cooling and heating water:
- Air source heat pumps use the energy in outside air or air from a ventilation system for cooling and heating water.
- Water source heat pumps use the energy stored in ground water, surface, or sea or sewage water. The heat pump takes heat from the water and makes it available for heating, cooling and preparation of hot water.
- Ground source heat pumps use the energy stored in the ground. They extract heat from the ground either by a vertical or horizontal collector.
- Electrically and thermally driven heat pumps: Heat pumps use electricity to drive the compression cycle – to heat up the energy from the air, water or underground. Whereas, thermally driven heat pumps use heat or an engine to drive the compression cycle instead.
